Ali Walker is amazing. Like really and truly one of the best photographers in Washington. So I can’t even tell you how excited I am to announce she is the newest Preferred Vendor on Apple Bride’s! It’s an honor. The fact that you can get photography like this in Eastern Washington should make all of us Spokane area brides proud. I’ve been a fan of Ali’s since I started this blog, you may remember the Moses Lake wedding and Walla Walla Engagement previously featured on Apple Brides, both of which are some of my all time favorite posts. Not only that, but she has been featured on some of the world’s top wedding blogs including Style Me Pretty, the Wedding Chicks and Rock n’ Roll Bride (click the links to see the features).
Ali is based in Walla Walla but travels all over the Northwest and has very reasonable travel rates. If you’re still looking for a photographer, do us all a favor and call Ali… and then send me the photos so we can all share in the brilliance!
Here’s a quick interview and a couple samples of her work…
How many years have you been shooting weddings?
This is my fourth year.
Why did you decide to get into wedding photography?
Initially I wanted to pursue children’s photography, but I started second shooting for a photographer in the Tri-Cities and after only a few weddings I knew that I was crazy about weddings. Now I shoot weddings and engagements almost exclusively.
What’s your photography style?
Candid. Honest. Romantic. Whimsical. Emotive.
What’s your favorite part of a wedding?
Right after the ceremony. There’s such a sense of joy and relief. I love to sneak my couples out for a brief session shortly after the ceremony (before the reception really gets in motion). Typically, at least for my summer weddings, the light is perfect. And there is an indescribable sense of joy and relaxation at that time, which I love to capture.
What is your number one tip for brides and grooms planning their wedding?
When a couple sits down to start planning, the first thing I advise is to set a budget for the whole shebang. Next, make a list prioritizing the services you need from most important to least. Then, before assigning numbers to any of these categories, start looking at vendors. Find your favorites–the ones you trust, click with, and adore. Get their pricing. When you’ve got those numbers, come back and revisit your categories to see where you can wiggle so that you can afford the vendors you want in the areas that really matter.
“I get so sad when people feel that they can’t afford good photography (or whatever service is really important to them)–sometimes it just takes some planning and creativity to make the numbers work.”
Where are you based?
Walla Walla, WA
Will you travel? And what are your travel fees?
Absolutely. This year I’m shooting all over the Northwest. My travel fees vary depending on where I’m traveling, but to give you an idea my travel fees for Spokane are $200. I charge a flat rate to keep things easy.
What are your rates?
Packages start at $2,900.
