I’m so happy to be welcoming Vasquez Photography to the Featured Vendors list here on Apple Brides. Owners, Jeremy and Sarah are a husband and wife team who work together on weddings so every couple has not just one awesome photographer, but two! By having two photographers with two sets of equipment, you can be sure nothing on your special day is missed. Both Jeremy and Sarah have a background in the arts and bring their eye for detail to their work. The couple is based in Ephrata but travel all over Eastern Washington for no travel fees. Score! An interview with Jeremy…
How long have you been in photography? What made you decide to go into weddings?
I have always been an artsy person, which I got from my dad. It wasn’t until a black and white film class at Central Washington University that I really got into photography about five years ago. I learned all the basics while finishing my degree in visual arts. At the same time, my wife was learning about the digital side of photography and design at Central Washington University. After a while, my hobby evolved into a portrait business mostly for friends and family. Early along the way, my wife and I decided if we were going to do something, we were going to do it all the way. This is untrue of many startup photographers you will find on the internet today. After investing an enormous amount of time and knowledge into our craft, the equipment followed. This is how we got into photographing weddings. We are still always pushing each other to raise the bar at each and every event. Although equipment doesn’t make the photographer, we always have two shooters at every wedding with backup equipment, indoor lighting equipment, liability and equipment insurance.
How would you describe your photography style?
Because my wife and I shoot every wedding together, we mix our styles that I would describe as fun and artistic infused with a traditional aspect. We always try to get to know our couples as much as possible to get a feel for what brought them together on that special day. I mentioned fun because I like to get my couples loosened up to really get genuine smiles and emotion in the pictures. In addition, we love to play with depth of field and document all of the photojournalistic little details the bride spent time on, and we also love for the bride and groom to have a somewhat traditional portrait that they will always appreciate. I mentioned artistic because my background in art helps me to always look for compositional elements to incorporate in the portraits.
What is your favorite part of a wedding?
My favorite part of a wedding is capturing the first time the groom sees the bride. For couples that are looking to get the most out of their photography, pictures are usually taken before the ceremony. Documenting the first look allows my wife and I to capture the bride and groom’s reaction to seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day. This then allows us to be able to spend one on one time with the bride and groom in a comfortable setting to get those fun and artistic portraits I mentioned earlier.
What is your piece of advice for couples looking for a photographer?
When looking for a photographer, couples need to determine what their priority is. My wife and I paid for our own wedding while we were both in college so I can understand what it means to be on a budget. However, if you are looking to strike a deal, we are not the ones for you. We only cover a limited amount of weddings each year and devote hours and hours in order to look at and edit each individual picture for your enjoyment. We love to create an album design that truly tells a story of your wedding day that you can look at and remember for many years to come.
What is included in your packages?
Our base package includes all 4×6 proofs in a custom designed proof box as well as a print credit that can be used towards a beautiful custom designed leather album, gallery canvas wrap, or more. Whatever the couple chooses we make sure that our base package includes some way to truly enjoy and uniquely display the wedding images. A couple can pay less for coverage that includes a disc but unless they are receiving some way to truly appreciate their wedding pictures, any amount of money is just a waste. We have recently started including a high-resolution DVD with printing rights and a high-resolution video slideshow in all of our packages as well.
My wife and I love seeing new places and have photographed weddings all the way from Everett to Spokane. Venues include the Davenport Hotel, Glover Mansion, Jamison’s Event Center, Shadow Lakes Ranch and more. We have not yet charged for travel and would love to negotiate a destination wedding.
