If a celebrity comes to the Spokane area, chances are Julie Farley, owner of The Make-up Studio will be their make-up artist. With over 20 years of experience and a specialization in photography make-up, Julie has had success everywhere from Seattle or Paris to Milan. And I feel more than qualified to sing Julie’s praises because she did my wedding make-up!
I wrote a full review of my experience a long time ago, but just to summarize, the woman is a MIRACLE WORKER! I have always had problems with my skin and Julie was able to not only make me look and feel fabulous, but the best part was the make-up lasted all day. I didn’t need a single touch up…even after the tears at the ceremony and during speeches. Miracle worker, I tell you, miracle worker….
Here is Julie doing my make-up…

Julie was kind enough to answer some questions about her business and give us some great make-up tips for brides!
How long have you been doing make-up?
I have been a professional makeup artist for over 25 years.
What is the inspiration for your make-up style?
The design, style and inspiration for each bride are varied depending upon their personality and sense of style. We take into consideration the location of the wedding, time of day and the lighting situation. Every bride is unique and different and so our goal is to achieve a clean, flawless makeup design whether natural or dramatic.
How should brides get their skin their skin ready for wedding day make-up?
The skin texture is crucial in how the makeup looks so exfoliation and hydration is always recommended. Brides should start this skin care regime at least 6 months prior to their wedding day to make sure they don’t react to any new products. All brow waxing should be done the week before the wedding.
How do you help brides choose the right make-up for their wedding day?
Part of the bridal package is a per-consultation appointment where the bride is asked to come with visuals of the wedding such as photos of the dress, jewelry, hair style, floral and makeup ideas. Having this information helps us to design a look that is customized for each bride. Also part of the package is a full preview application where we apply the makeup exactly how it will look on the wedding day.
What products do you use?
I airbrush with either Dinair or Kett products, depending upon the skin type. All other products I use are makeup artist brands, such as MAC, Stila, Bobbie Brown etc.
What should brides look for in their make-up artist?
- Do they have experience in photography makeup?
- A bride should expect clean, blended, flawless looking airbrushed makeup that lasts for 10+hours!
- Your makeup should look natural up close but also photograph well.
- Always meet with your artist beforehand and ask to see examples of their work and most importantly do a preview. No surprises on your wedding day.
- Check for cleanliness of the artist’s makeup kit and do they sanitize brushes and makeup in between customers?
- Do they supply proper lighting for their makeup application?
Do you do bridal party packages?
We can accommodate the entire bridal party and the pricing is per person whether a bridesmaid or mother of the bride. We offer a room for a bride’s hair stylist and team, making it convenient for the bridal party to be in one location.
