Vendor Spotlight: Mobile Beauty Service

One of the best investments I made into my wedding day was my make-up. I probably wouldn’t have said that before my wedding day, but after, when I saw how much of a difference it made in not only how I looked, but also how confident I felt,  I know it made all the difference. So after my own experience, I’m a firm believer in hiring a quality professional. Mobile Beauty Service is one of the newest featured Spokane make-up artists and hair stylists on Apple Brides. Owner, Jana, has a great portfolio, she travels, she does airbrushing (which I swear by!) and she gives a discount for bridal parties of 4 or more (which I also love!). A perfect combination!

Jana also did the hair for the Lodge at Sandpoint inspiration shoot we featured a couple days ago.

PS- how awesome are the before and after pics below?!

How long have you been doing make-up?

Over 20 years, as a freelance artist. I started Mobile Beauty Service in 1999. I also do bridal and special occasion hairstyling.

What is the inspiration for your make-up style?

Classic, timeless beauty and old Hollywood glamour.

How should brides get their skin ready for wedding day make-up?

Consult a skin care specialist for an analysis and recommendations. When starting a new system, be prepared to start several months in advance of your wedding day.

How do you help brides choose the right make-up for their wedding day?

I specialize in customizing cosmetic colors and application techniques suitable to the client’s skin tone and texture. The techniques and colors selected greatly depend on the location and expected lighting conditions of where the Bride’s formal pictures will be taken. For example, an afternoon garden photo session requires a different technique than an indoor candlelit theater. Most importantly, it’s important that the groom recognizes his bride!

What products do you use?

I use AIRBRUSH makeup for my Brides, unless traditional makeup is requested. I am not affiliated with any particular brand, so I use multiple lines of cosmetics. I hand select a variety of products intended for long-wear that photograph nicely. I test each of the products I use on multiple skin tones. I test their heat/humidity/sweat/water resistance, and also their photographic affect. For example, a deep shade of dark red lipstick or nail color, photographs as brown or black, and sparkly glitter photographs as black or white spots.

What should brides look for in their make-up artist?

Most of my clients are one of these 3 types of brides, and they each may be looking for something different:

1. Brides who make sure their #1 investment is their Wedding Photography. Their priority is looking their best in their wedding pictures. This bride should be sure her make-up artist is trained specifically as a photographic makeup artist (or also called Media Makeup). I have been specializing in “camera-ready makeup” since the early 90s, and positioned as Media Makeup Artist Instructor at Cascade Photography School in Seattle, WA.

2. Brides who don’t normally wear make-up, but knows she is supposed to wear make-up for her wedding pictures. She doesn’t want to buy a bunch of products she’ll never use again. She is afraid of being “made over” or looking too different from her normal self. This bride should be sure her make-up artist can apply her makeup in a natural way that enhances her prettiest features, and offers a trial run to help alleviate any wedding day beauty anxieties. I specialize in a natural, classic look while enhancing features with a neutral palette.

3. Brides who don’t want the hassle of running errands on the morning of their wedding. They want their entire family and bridal party to get together and get ready at the same location- whether it’s her home, her hotel suite, or event site. This bride should look for a make-up artist experienced at servicing clients on location and flexible enough to come when you need them- even if it’s 5 a.m. on a Sunday. That’s me! I love early mornings, and work quickly and calmly under any circumstance, whether fun-filled, relaxed, or chaotic.

Will you travel and is there a fee?

Yes, I travel for wedding day beauty services, but trial runs are held at my studio in downtown Coeur d’Alene. There is no fee for travel within the greater Spokane/Coeur d’Alene area. I am willing to travel (for fee) outside the area, such as Priest Lake, Tri-Cities, Seattle, Montana, etc. Please request a quote.

What is the price range of your services?

I have an a-la-carte pricing structure, posted in detail on my website. We offer traditional and airbrush make-up, and bridal party hairstyling.

Do you do bridal party packages?

I give a 10% discount for parties of 4 or more.
