For most shoots I spend a day or two (or five) obsessing over a concept, the perfect cake and immaculately staged scenes. I keep a pad and pen on my nightstand so I can write down ideas I dream up at 3am. The night before a shoot I can often be found at the market after midnight picking up last minute items. I’ve laughed over shoots and even cried when my visions just don’t come to life as I picture them. I love every minute of it!
When putting together my latest shoot for Denison Ridge I wanted to start from the ground up…literally. Denison Ridge is an immaculately manicured property of green lawns and flower gardens (Just a short half hour trip outside of North Spokane) so I didn’t want to do anything too fussy that would take away from the natural beauty. I thought about the type of bride who would want an outdoor wedding. The type of bride who would want a bouquet of wildflowers, iced tea (maybe spiked)…a bride who would kick off her shoes and dance in the moonlight. This was a wedding for a modern day boho bride! I was so excited when the lovely Teri Denison (owner of Denison Ridge along with her husband Les) gave me the thumbs up for what I know call the “bohemian chic” shoot. (Fyi, if the gorgeous views and grounds don’t win you over Teri will, she is super sweet and a pleasure to work with!)
The very talented Jenn Alberts of Jenn Alberts Photography captured the breezy tone and lush surroundings of Denison Ridge. (She even suffered a nasty burn getting every last shot on the hot sunny day of our shoot.) Jenn’s pictures not only show her years of experience but her passion for capturing the moments that are easily lost during a hectic wedding day. Enjoy!
