What better way to kick off 4th of July week than with a wedding at one of my favorite Spokane wedding venues, Barrister Winery! Kassica and Jared’s wedding comes to us courtesy of David from AiP Creative Photography, who despite the rain and wind that day, managed to get some beautiful shots around downtown and Barrister. Here’s what David had to say about the big day:
“Sometimes the weather is a photographer’s friend on Saturdays. Sometimes it is your worst enemy. Well, on Jared & Kassica’s wedding, it was both. Yeah, pouring down rain for most of the day, and I had such high hopes for beautiful shots in the park and even in the downtown Spokane alleys — complimentary locations to shoot when your venue is the amazing Barrister Winery. So, we were still able to get the first look down at Riverfront Park due to a let up in the rain, which I was so thankful for. We then headed back to the winery as it started to once again rain. I took a survey of where we would set up for our portraits, since they were definitely not going to be outside (all my week’s planning for outside shots were toast!). After a few moments of gathering ideas and considering the light, I had it. I had already planned on using the unique wine barrels for much of their portraits, but the wedding party… that was a different matter. Alas the elevator (that’s right, I said “alas”). Once I looked it over, I was actually glad for the rain, because I probably wouldn’t have considered using it had it not rained. The shots of the wedding party in this elevator were lit entirely by me. I didn’t want the light bulbs lit, so I would pose everyone, then hit the light switch, and we were in near pitch black darkness. I wanted this so that I could rely entirely on my bare strobe behind the party and my strobe with a shoot through umbrella out front and just off to the camera right. The results were just what I was hoping for. By the way, would I have shot out in the rain? Yep, but most brides don’t want to get their dress wet, and I can’t blame them. Enjoy what was created on Jared & Kassica’s magical day. Their upcoming honeymoon is in the Caribbean!
P.S. You might recognize Jared and Kassica from their engagement session we featured a couple months ago!
