You will probably remember Ben and Teresa from their adorable WSU engagement we featured a couple months ago. We always knew these two would plan a spectacular wedding, and we were right! Ben and Teresa were married last June at Schweitzer Mountain Resort, and it was definitely a day to remember! The couple focused on making sure every aspect of their day was a reflection of themselves from the color scheme to the WSU memorabilia throughout the day. They also wanted a great team of vendors on board, they called in Kena Helen Photography to do the photography and stationery, Ali from Violet Hills Weddings + Events to do the coordination, Crain Studios to make the BEAUTIFUL video and a whole slew of other awesome local pros. Be sure to read Teresa’s wedding advice and the vendor list at the bottom of the post!
Also, there is a 97% chance you will shed a few tears when you see this video by Crain Studios. You have been warned.
A little from bride, Teresa, about her wedding day…
“There’s something to be said about that moment that the man you love more than life gets down on one knee and asks you to marry him. And then after it has all set in, the excitement (and sheer chaos!) of wedding planning begins!
When I started, it was really important to me that our wedding reflected who Ben and I are. We chose our colors first – ocean blue for me (because in college, I sailed the world on Semester at Sea), and cowboy tan for Ben (because he’s a true country boy at heart). Then we chose our venue – the very top of Schweitzer Mountain – not because we are ski bums by any means, but because we wanted our wedding to be unique and memorable. And before we knew it, all the days of Pinterest pinning, wedding blog stalking, to-do list completing, glass vase buying, bridesmaid dress shopping, burlap cutting, boutonniere making, chalkboard paint fumes up my nose came to an end, and the big day was finally here.
I remained decently calm during planning (although I bet my friends and family will tell you differently), but my one constant concern was the weather. Because the plan was that all guests would be riding the chairlift up to the top of the mountain, I was praying for sunshine. And I woke up at 6am on June 30th, 2012 to warm sun pouring through the blinds. Yay! It was time to get ready with all of my bridesmaids and my parents, and before I knew it, my hair and makeup were perfect, and I was finally stepping into my wedding dress. It was time!
The first look was incredible. Both Ben and I were so overcome by an amazing amount of love. It is one of my favorite memories of the day. Then it was time for photos, and at around 1:45pm (under an hour and a half before ceremony time), a phone rang with less than good news. There was lightning and we wouldn’t be heading up to the top of the mountain after all. Bummer. Plan B was to be in our weather back-up room, which would still be very pretty, but wasn’t what I was hoping for. Then the phone rang again. “If you would rather be outside, we can go with Plan C and set it up in the village patio. Except there’s a catch – there won’t be any chairs.” We totally went for it. And I am so glad we did! That setting was so powerful. Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing all our guests standing, smiling and crying tears of joy is a very overwhelming experience. Then right as I turned the corner and finally saw my handsome soon-to-be- husband staring back at me with tears in his eyes, all of our guests started clapping and cheering. It was perfect.
After we said ‘I Do’, the reception began. It was a whirlwind of dancing and drinks, cake eating and photo booth fun! And looking back, even though the ceremony didn’t go exactly how we had planned it, our wedding day turned out better than we could have ever imagined. I truthfully have never been happier in my life than I am right now, and I know that Ben would say the same for him. Getting married is such a magical thing!”
