Vendor Spotlight: CARAVAN Floral Design

CARAVAN Floral Design is one of my favorite florists in the Spokane area. Everything owner Amy Page creates is so whimsical and eclectic, I can’t help but swoon! Today we are featuring a special interview with Amy to learn more about her and her floral design business.

How long have you been doing wedding flowers?

Professionally 4 years. However I have done many weddings and events for family and friends for many years.

What training/experience do you have?

I have been working in the wedding industry for about 10 years. I started in catering where I learned all the behind the scene details under a Le Cordon Bleu trained chef. In 2005 I was offered an opportunity to work for a venue in Bigfork Montana. I was the wedding coordinator for their first two summers.

We moved back to Spokane in 2007 and I returned to Beacon Hill Events. I was then inspired by my close friend that I need to take my passion for flowers into a profession. I have worked around 500 weddings in my career.

What are some common mistakes you see brides make with their wedding flowers?

I feel a common mistake is that some brides are not open and honest. Communicate your vision, likes, dislikes and expectations. Your floral designer will have a better understanding and you will get a better result on the big day.

What is your advice for helping brides choose the right flowers?

Understand that there are no right or wrong choices when selecting flowers for your wedding. It is your own personal choice, as your own preferences are the most important part, as well as having a basic understanding of what works well for the vision you’ve chosen and your budget. A good designer will provide you with helpful advice, so ask plenty of questions and communicate all ideas with your florist once you reach that point in the planning.

What are some floral trends for 2013?

My favorite trend right now for 2013 is mint green or blush pink with gold accents. Metallics and Glitter are great ways of making a wedding have that pop! Wilder handpicked style of bouquets and centerpieces are very popular as well v.s. the traditional structured styles in the past.

Do you offer consultations? How does it help brides?

I do. I think this is a very important part of the planning. I love meeting with the brides and getting to know them. See their style, inspiration pictures and boards. This is a way for brides to get to know me as well and my style of design.

What is your price range?

All of my weddings are custom to each client.

Do you deliver?

Yes. My packages include CARAVAN being on site through your ceremony. I set all tablescapes and any additional flowers that need to be placed. I find this being very important to the client. It not only puts them at ease to see their florist taking care of all the design no bride should have to worry about the details so they can relax and enjoy their day.

What do you think makes your floral designs unique?

I have been told that my designs are eclectic. I like to incorporate flea market finds like candle sticks, vases, cigar boxes, bottles also outdoor elements like moss, trees, barn wood and antlers into my designs. I try to give the traditional and modern a little twist.
