Hair & Make-Up Spotlight: Terri Reece

It’s always great to learn about new hair and make-up artists (especially ones that travel!), but it’s REALLY wonderful when they have the talent and experience as Terri Reece Studios does! Terri just moved to Spokane from Portland and has had her work featured in Martha Stewart, TV shows, countless wedding blogs, magazines and even music videos. She offers brides the chance to have  their hair and make-up done by one of the most sought after stylists in the Northwest!

What inspired you to become a make-up and hair stylist?

It started when I was a child, and my sisters and I use to play dress up. We would get all made up then do model shows for my mom and dad.  Growing up in a small town, all I ever wanted to do was go to L.A. and be an actress. I got the opportunity to live out my dream. While I was on set, I loved getting my hair and makeup done and thought that this would be a great way to help people and have a creative outlet.

What is the inspiration for your make-up and hair style?

My inspiration comes from my clients themselves. There is something beautiful in everyone, and everyone deserves to feel the best about themselves. Everyone has had a bad hair/beauty experience; I want to give my clients the best beauty experience, a new beauty experience.

How should brides get their skin & hair ready for their wedding day?

Brides face all this pressure to be perfect on their big day, and they are already beautiful. Changes in their everyday life affect their skin and body. The best advice is to not keep switching products or changing diets before their wedding day. The biggest mistake brides can make is stressing over their face and body image, which is hard, but something you should try to avoid. Take a breath and do something fun that will relax you the week before the wedding, you will be glad you did.

How do you help brides choose the right make-up and hair style for their wedding day?

My process starts with asking a bride about the details of what they want, what they have spent time dreaming of. Do they want a traditional up do or a trendy cascading look; it is all about the details of the wedding & their everyday life. It is taking the time to find what that is and enhancing it without changing the beauty of the bride. I walk every bride through what I plan to do and what to expect as the final result. I never want to send a bride off unhappy or with a style that isn’t authentic to who she is.

What products do you use?

I use a variety of professional products, but my main make-up product is MAC and for hair it is Paul Mitchell.

What should brides look for in their make-up artist and hair stylist?

Brides should make sure their make-up and hair stylist is a state licensed professional.  The state holds us to higher standards and ensures we are properly qualified to safely meet our client’s needs.  It is also important to look for someone who is reliable that takes the time to make sure everything is perfect for your once-in-a-lifetime day.
