Meghan and Jake’s backyard wedding was a custom affair from start to finish. These high school sweethearts brought in Ali from Soiree Event Design to coordinate the big day so they were free to stop and smell the roses (or dance parties!) they encountered along the way. We love the little touches like the rainbow of pashminas for guests, Meghan’s effortlessly chic makeup from Alicia at Modern Apothecary, and those jaw dropping shoes! Check the bottom of this post for a beautiful rundown of this wedding from the bride herself!
“Jake and I had been together 9.5 years when we finally tied the knot. I went to Gonzaga Prep and he went to Shadle Park, and we met because I was on the gymnastics team at Shadle. All of our friends and family said “ABOUT TIME” when we set a date.
I wanted an outdoor wedding and I wanted to do a lot of the details myself, but knew I needed to hire someone to do all of the rental coordination since we had to bring everything in. My dress was a 1+ year collaboration between Marcella and I – my dream of what I wanted it to look like. My mom and I collected vases from thrift stores, antique shops and friends for all of the table arrangements. We had Jake’s coworkers from the Volstead bartending – and Jake even got ready at the Volstead Act and took before pictures. Everyone put time in to make the property wedding ready – Jake’s parents dealt with the grass and filling holes, Jake’s mom planted flowers, Jake built an alter and with teamwork we made it all happen for the big day.
It was cold on the morning of and started to rain, but miraculously the sun popped out right before I walked down the aisle. My family is very Irish and we lost my grandmother last year, so we hired her favorite bagpiper to wander the property before the wedding. I had purchased pashmina scarves in a rainbow of colors for the female guests since I knew it might be chilly, and it was beautiful to walk down the aisle and see the assortment of colors that the women were wrapped in. It was important for our wedding to be a celebration from start to finish, so upon the guests’ arrival, the bar was open for them to share cocktails with friends and get in the celebratory mood. We wanted it to be a party – and our 250 guests did not disappoint!
Lastly, one of the best memories I have from my wedding is the dance party that my bridal party and I had before we walked down the aisle. We actually held the wedding up because of it, but “I want to dance with Somebody” came on and we had the dance party to end all dance parties. The guests could even hear the loud music coming from the house. I will never forget that moment for as long as I live.”
