If you’re looking for beautifully dreamy, fine art inspired photographs for your wedding, we have the right photographer for you! We’re sitting down with Urban Rose Photography to talk about her inspiration, how she gets that gorgeous lighting, and why she loves what she does.
What first sparked your interest in photography as a career?
Initially I wanted to be a fine art artist. I started taking art classes in college but quickly found I couldn’t seem to make the vision in my head come alive with paint, pens, or pigment. But when I got a camera in my hands, my artistic vision was able to come alive. I was hooked.
Why were you drawn to wedding photography, is it really something you love to photograph?
The thing I love to photograph most of all is true, raw emotion. People who are in love and give me real emotion help me to create a breathtaking photograph. Anyone can take a photo of you smiling at the camera, I want to capture the love, and the heart of the couple. Wedding photography is unique as it encompasses a lot of aspects of photography, portrait, landscape, details, I love how it all comes together to tell the story of an individual wedding day. And I love telling those stories.
Tell us a little about your process on a wedding day.
I always arrive a little early to a wedding. I like to make sure I am in place and familiar with the venue(s) before I start for the day. I also shoot with both digital and film photography equipment. I love film for its soft, timeless, and airy aesthetic. But digital cameras are also important for fast paced times or low lighting situations. I most always do a first look where the Bride and Groom see each other before the ceremony and that way get a little time together and are able to get all the formal photos done and get to enjoy the reception and relax right away after they are married. Basically I just do everything I can to make sure you don’t have to worry about anything on your wedding day, except each other.
Who is your ideal client?
I want to work with brides who value photography. Who will trust me to use my knowledge to capture them and their special day in the best possible way (and light!) I also want to attract brides who are excited about marrying their best friend and are more focused on that than just throwing the perfect party.
What is your favorite part of a wedding day?
I have two! One, is when I first arrive as the bride is getting ready. She is usually surrounded by her closest friends. There is such anticipation during this time of the day and it’s really special to get to capture that.
I also love the moment when the bride and groom are announced as husband and wife and they turn to walk back down the isle. I love to capture that shot! Most of the formal photos are done at this point and the bride and groom are so joyful and excited to be finally married!
What is one thing you would say to a bride who is planning her wedding?
Surround yourself with your crew and don’t be afraid to delegate! It’s easy for wedding planning to get stressful, so give other people jobs to do and give yourself a break sometimes. Also to spend time with your fiancé dreaming up your big day. The engagement season of life is so sweet and it goes so quick. Enjoy the process!
