We work with a lot of photographers in different areas, and they are all so special and uniquely talented. One of our most recent partners was Jenice Baker Photography, when she shot this styled wedding shoot we did recently. So today, we’re sitting down with her to talk about her favorite parts of her job, and her best advice for engaged couples (you’ll want to read her book recommendation before you say ‘I do’!)
What makes your photography unique?
I love the light! I often tell my clients that we are going to “chase the light.”
I think you can see my love of light in my photography. It shines in crisp, clear colors that are natural and not heavily edited.
What is included in your packages? What is your price range?
My packages run from $1974 – $2997 and can be customized to fit each couple’s unique needs for their wedding day. Each package comes with digital images along with print release, a print credit, and a beautiful wedding album. I am incredibly passionate about my clients having an album showcasing a selection of their wedding photos and you can read more about that on my post “The Value of a Wedding Album” here on Apple Brides.
How would you describe your style?
Two words that come to mind when I hear that question are fresh and enjoyable. I think the “fresh” shows in the light and color shown in my photography, and I think the “enjoyable” is in the way we (my second shooter husband and I) interact with you during the day. From the time we sit down with you to develop a schedule for your wedding day to end of your special day, we seek to make your wedding relaxing and fully enjoyable. This is evident in my posing as well. When I put you in a pose you get to interact naturally and lightheartedly. The best is when we can get you to laugh (cue my husband’s sense of humor). While we strive to bring professionalism to all we do, we also seek to be more than a vendor. We want to be your friends. A highlight from of my weddings this past summer was a bride telling me “Oh, Jenice, I think you and I could be good friends!”
What should brides and grooms look for in their photographer?
A lot of this comes down to style. You really need to know what catches your eye in regards to wedding photography. Spend some time on Pinterest pinning the wedding shots you love. Visit photographers’ blogs and note what your eye likes and what it doesn’t. You can also read more about this on my post “Do you know your wedding photography style?” here on Apple Brides.
Any tips or advice for wedding planning?
This is probably going to surprise you! To me, a wedding isn’t just a gorgeous, fun-filled event you’ve been dreaming and planning for months. It’s the birth of something incredibly special and sacred – a marriage. I think that’s worth investing in before you walk down the aisle. One of the best things you can do during the months before your wedding is to pour into your future marriage, learn more about who your soon-to-be spouse is, and spend some time away from wedding planning and enjoy each other because let’s face it, wedding planning can be stressful. A couple great resources you might consider are “Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts” by Drs. Les & Leslie Parrott or The Gottman Institute’s work.
