It’s hard to imagine now as the temperature continues to hit 100, but winter will be here before we know it. If you’re a snow queen planning on getting married this winter, you know cold weather weddings bring certain challenges. So today, we’re sharing some important reminders for those of you planning on getting married this winter!
Be extra considerate of guests. It gets cold sitting at a ceremony! If you’re outdoors, provide heaters and keep it brief. If you’re inside somewhere where it gets drafty, consider proving blankets or pashminas for guests.
Be aware of travel issues. Traveling to a wedding during the colder months is extra challenging. Know that some guests might have trouble getting to your wedding– canceled flights, snowy roads and holiday season crowds make traveling complicated. Be aware, and plan accordingly.
Have a back up plan! This is important no matter the season, but be aware if your venue might have issues with snow or bad weather. Always have a back up plan! If the weather is extremely bad, it might be complicated for vendors to make it to your wedding as well. Stuff happens– limos get stuck in the snow, people spin off the road, and travel times are thrown off. Consider purchasing event insurance, just in case.
Be aware of the holidays. Don’t plan your event too close to a holiday weekend (unless you want a holiday wedding!) and be prepared for some people to RSVP no. Time off is in high demand this time of year!
Use what’s in season– but not too in season! Different flowers are in season, and thus, cheaper, during the winter months. But others are in super high demand, like roses in February. Be aware of what’s accessible this time of year!
Keep the timing in mind! It’s hard to party all night when the sun sets at 4 pm! Keep ceremony times, sunset and lighting in mind when planning out your day of.
Prep yourself! Bring boots for under your dress for outdoor pictures, bring a fur stole or jacket, moisturize extra well to avoid dry, flaky skin and be aware of the beauty and outfit challenges that come with the winter months!
All in all, winter weddings provide lots of hurdles to overcome, but are always stunningly beautiful and unique. It’s worth the hassle, as long as you’re prepared!
