If that gorgeously idyllic lakeside image caught your eye as you were scrolling and you thought to yourself, ‘WHERE is that?!’, then you aren’t alone. It’s Talus Rock Retreat, a hidden gem in Sandpoint that 100% lives up to its ‘retreat’ name. They have more to offer than just breathtaking views, though, believe it or not. They’re sharing with us some of their favorite highlights, so if you’ll excuse us, we have a weekend staycation we suddenly need to book…

What sets you apart from other venues?
From the first inquiries and tour, we are very flexible in accommodating varying budgets and wedding styles – from simple to extravagant. Whether it is for an all-inclusive ceremony, reception, and lodging experience, just a rehearsal dinner, or a getaway in the honeymoon suite, we work to accommodate people’s individual needs. We have some rentals available on-site to make it more convenient to have a formal sit-down dinner, but if folks want to keep things casual and simple, they can use the beautiful and comfortable furniture already in place for mingling with finger foods. Couples have the option to get their event catered or to use one of the big, gourmet kitchens to make their own creations. Bringing your own alcohol is fine by us. Some people bring decorations, and some don’t feel the need for them at all, as the beauty here inside and outside stands on its own, and lends to a feeling of being right at home.
Can couples bring in other vendors they’ve already booked, or want to book?
We have cultivated a list of tried and trusted vendors covering all of the different categories, chosen to provide a variety of budget ranges and styles for each decision. In addition, we allow wedding couples to choose whoever they want who is not on the list – we just provide it to help make things easier. From music, photographers, and catering, to butterflies, horse-drawn carriages and doves, we have you covered!
We have an on-site officiant as an option for couples, the fee for which is included in some of our wedding packages. There is a ceremony template that we give to people using a Talus Rock Retreat officiant. It includes many options, which people can either choose from or use as inspiration for their own creation.
We provide two hours of free pre-planning consultation once the date is booked, and Talus Rock Retreat staff is available for hire for coordination during the event. Retreat staff are great at making sure any event runs smoothly, since they already know the place so intimately and have years of on-location wedding experience. If couples have their own coordinator Talus staff is still around as support, giving the coordinator a rundown of the house and grounds and how everything works, a coordinator’s checklist, as well as being on call for any questions or concerns. We also have a checklist to hand over to couples on planning a wedding in 12 months, step-by-step.

What else do you have in store for couples?
For weddings planned to be outdoors, there is always an indoor option for bad weather.
If couples are planning a destination wedding with many guests needing a place to stay, we can cover about 24 people overnight in the entire retreat, allowing families (yes, we do allow kids) and loved ones to all be together under one roof, surrounded by 18 acres of wilderness with so much to do, one hardly needs to leave at all. If excursions are desired, we are only one mile from downtown Sandpoint and City Beach, and about 10 miles from Schweitzer Mountain Resort. We can even help with planning activities in the area, such as lake cruises, a group murder mystery dinner, paint and sip gatherings, sleigh rides, and fishing trips.
