Wedding flowers can add SO much to your big day. From your bouquet and the accent bouquets for your bridal party, to centerpieces and ceremony decor, to adding that certain something extra to your reception, a good florist can make or break the aesthetic of a gorgeous event. Today, one of our FAVORITE Spokane florists, Rose & Blossom, is sharing some amazing insight they’ve gained in their collective decades in the wedding industry. One of their best tips? The most common mistakes they see brides making when it comes to deciding on wedding flowers!

How long have you been doing wedding flowers?
20 plus years!
What training/experience do you have?
I am so lucky to have a team of very experienced designers with anywhere from 15 years experience to almost 40 years. In addition, we stay current with the latest designs by attending conventions and floral education classes.

What are some common mistakes you see brides make with their wedding flowers?
In all our collective years, we’ve noticed a couple things that we always try to lend our expertise to. Some brides can get too matchy matchy. Flowers always turn out better if various shades and textures are incorporated, rather than trying to match exactly or include all colors in the flowers that are in the wedding. You can have aqua as a wedding color, and it doesn’t need to be in the flowers.
We always encourage brides to let the professionals do their jobs on the day of as well. Let the designer work their art! Copying a bouquet exactly off the internet isn’t inspiring. It is best to use photos as an inspiration and then create a unique one of a kind bouquet for the bride. Lastly, don’t DIY your bridal bouquet. Just don’t. it’s a job best left to the professionals! We’ve seen way too many last minute rescue missions from DIY gone wrong.
What is your advice for helping brides choose the right flowers?
Use Pinterest, and pin all your favorites. Look at color texture and flower varieties. We can then look at your board and help you refine your ideas and create something gorgeous.
What are some floral trends for 2018?
We are heading back to modern take on the cascade bouquet, rich tones of plum, emerald green, and fuchsia accented by neutral tones and use of rich velvet. Also free form bouquets with locally grown flowers, with a “folk art reinvented” feel. We’re also seeing a lot of white/ivory flowers accented with assorted greenery.

Do you offer consultations? How does it help brides?
Our consultations are free and take about an hour to 1.5 hrs. We sit down with the couple and create idea boards and recipes for their vision. We put that all together in a nice proposal with specific pricing for them to look over. They know exactly what they will be receiving and the fees associated with delivery and set up, so there are no surprises.
What is your price range?
We work with every budget. We have excellent ideas for economy pricing, and also we do high end blooms and very custom designs for the bride looking for a more elaborate wedding. Overall our pricing is very fair, and competitive with the market.

Do you deliver?
Yes there is a fee depending on how long we need to be on site and if floral designers are needed on site.
What do you think makes your floral designs unique?
Our designers are true artists, who have through the years refined their craft. They are passionate about their designs and this shows in their work. We say you aren’t only buying a flower bouquet, but a bouquet that is made with true joy and love. I also have 3 lead designers who each have a slightly different esthetic so I match the bride to the best designer for their vision.
Another thing we do that many brides don’t know, is we offer free use of our vessels/container when you have us do the designs. So they don’t need to go buy 20 vases for centerpieces, they can use ours and return them the following week. I suggest checking with us before buying a bunch of things, because we may have it in inventory and that will save the couples a ton of money!
We also have great rental items. I am most excited about our moon gate, a circular arch that is said to bring good luck to the newlyweds when they walk through it.
