There are many so traditions involved in a wedding– the bride wears white and the couple exchange vows. Another one of these traditions is to head off straight away on your honeymoon. Couples sometimes even go straight from the reception venue to the airport! However, it’s worth bearing in mind that you don’t always have to follow traditions because they exist. More and more couples are now considering taking their honeymoon a few months, or even a year later. Have you thought about it? Here is a handful of reasons why you might want to wait.
Relax at home You can have planned the most luxurious and relaxing honeymoon in the world. However, you’re not in control of whether or not your taxi will break down your flight will be cancelled or a room that isn’t ready. While going away on honeymoon might sound like just what you need after the stress of planning a wedding, you might want to think again. You’ll be utterly exhausted dashing away from your reception straight to the airport, and travel always comes with risks. So does going to a place you’ve never been before! Taking a week of home to hang around the house and lie-in in the mornings with your loved one could be a far safer bet.
Priorities might change To go on your honeymoon straight after your wedding, you might have to book quite far in advance to get the perfect flight times and hotel package. However, in the time that passes in between booking and going, your circumstances might change. Booking afterward allows for wiggle room. Your original plans might have been to go camping in Cornwall. However, if your financial situation improves through a work promotion, you might start looking at luxury hotels in Bali. Splash out… we wouldn’t blame you!
Spread out the fun While stressful and manic, you wedding day is going to be one of the most fun days of your life! After all, it’s a day tailored around all the things that you and your partner love the best! Why wouldn’t you want something else to look forward to, to help get you through those post-wedding blues? (they’re real, trust us!)
Something to look forward to! Just like the point above, this is all about the fun. Cramming your wedding and honeymoon together means that all the fun happens at once! Spread things out a little and the fun will last even longer. You can enjoy being excited about the wedding. Then, when that is over, you will still have something to look forward to in the honeymoon.
More time to save Brides can budget until they’re blue in the face, but no matter how hard you try, there is always that one thing you hadn’t quite prepared for! If you’re lucky, it’s something quite affordable. But sometimes, it;s something big and expensive. If this happens to you, you might have to deplete your savings more than you would have liked! Doing your honeymoon a year later gives you more time to save money for both the journey and your spending once you arrive. It’s not for everyone, but giving it a second thought and deciding what right for YOU, regardless of tradition, is definitely worthwhile!
