Most of us do not spend a lot of time in front of a professional camera, so a frequent concern we hear from couples is that they’re worried about looking awkward or not knowing what to do in front of their photographer on their big day, or for engagement photos. Today, Heather Biggs Photography is sharing her super secret pro tips to make sure you’re comfortable and looking your best in front of the camera!
I love that I have a job that gives me the ability to be able to show brides how absolutely gorgeous and happy they are on their big day! I think it’s important to show brides know how to look their best on their wedding day. Grooms, it’s important to see some handsome images of yourself as well, but this ones for the ladies! Here are a couple tips and tricks that will make looking your best effortless!
I know that brides and always looking for ways to cut corners with expenses. I don’t blame you, weddings are pricey. However, there are a few areas where you should really be cautious when limiting your budget. Having a professional stylist to do your hair and makeup is so important. Yes, sometimes brides have a best friend that is a whiz at hair and makeup, but that isn’t always the case. You and your bridesmaids should be sitting back relaxing, not stressing over doing each others hair and makeup. I’ve also noticed that many times professionals know how to do camera ready makeup and non professionals may not. That’s not to say that you’re going to look like a hot mess if you don’t go professional! It’s just something to think about.
Get lost in your love. Sounds corny, but it really helps with nerves. Stare at your honey, or give him a smooch! Sometimes the best photographs are captured when the two of you are in your own little world. You need to be able to not worry about what you look like and just have fun. Your images will be stellar if you just relax and let go a little.
Limit the alcohol intake until after we do our main images. Yes, a few glasses of wine is just fine, but please no keg stands before we get a few shots of the two of you! It is true that a little liquor does help loosen you up, but there is a fine line between loosened and needing some serious makeup touch ups.
Be ready for anything. If you are ready then if something crazy happens you’ll be prepared and it won’t be a huge ordeal. I had a brides button pop of her dress, and her bridal party had to sew her in. It was okay because they were ready for things to potentially happen. We all want our wedding to be drama free, and this helps. Staying calm helps you get some of the best images possible.
Finally, trust me! As a professional photographer I am trained and groomed to see things differently. You may think that I am asking you to crawl around in stupid weeds, but I know what I am doing, and it’s going to be gorgeous. If you don’t feel comfortable doing something, that is just fine. Just keep in mind that what your photographer sees will most likely be completely different then how you are looking at the setting.
