What made you decide to go into weddings?

I was a Catering Director at a high-end hotel in downtown Seattle when I decided to become an independent meeting planner to coincide with my move back to Spokane.  I had a few requests to travel back to Seattle to finish some weddings I was working on.  I love working with Brides and Grooms and their families and I felt that I had to be there when they got married.  I got such wonderful feedback I started doing more weddings on my own.

Why should brides consider hiring a wedding planner?

Experience, that they really listen and understand YOUR vision and that your personalities mesh.  You will spend a lot of time with your wedding planner over the course of planning your special day. You need to feel comfortable talking with them about family dynamics, budget, and expectations.

What range of services do you offer?

Most brides come to me with a lot of ideas and not a clear path on how to make them a reality.  So we start with a two-hour meeting to evaluate what the couples true needs are.  From there I come up with a time table and a list of action items for all of us.  The week of the wedding I am totally available for out of town arrivals, pre-wedding events, rehearsal and of course day-of services.

What is your favorite part of the planning process?

The beginning and end! I love meeting new couples and their enthusiasm.  Each couple is so unique, I like hearing their stories and trying to incorporate that into their wedding.  I love the moment the reception is ready and no one is in the room yet. I can see their dream come true.

How will your experience in weddings help the wedding plans go smoother?

I have experience in every stage of the wedding and reception.  Not much surprises me.  I’m calm and resourceful.  I have planned thousands of events.  I know where to look for problem areas and head them off before anyone else is aware.  The couple can enjoy their friends and family that have gathered for their wedding… I will take care of the logistics.

How do you come up with the concept of a wedding theme for your clients?

I don’t know that I do.  I listen, I ask questions, I ask to see what they have culled from magazines and the internet.  I ask about their family and heritage to really get to know who they are.  The theme comes from their answers. I collaborate with the bride and groom so that their wedding reflects them as a couple.

Will you travel?

I do! As a meeting planner, I have traveled all over for events.  I’m well versed in hotel and travel logistics and negotiations.  I have done weddings in Mexico to Idaho, Baltimore to Seattle.
